Blink and you’ll miss it, Mission Chinese is located, surprise, surprise in San Francisco’s trendy Mission District. It it located in a Chinese restaurant, that must have been opened in the 1970’s and décor doesn’t seem to have changed, from it’s bouncy red carpet, red lights and paper dragons. The food, however, is far from dated. Danny Bowien’s menu consists of twists such as kung pao pastrami, smashed cucumbers with tahini and black garlic oil, and lamb dumplings with tzatziki. If you can’t make it to the San Fran original, they recently opened in New York. Embrace the kitsch – it’s worth it.
